From 2010 to 2016, one factor in the death of nine Hamilton infants was bed sharing;
Five other babies died in unsafe sleeping conditions.
They want to do everything for their children.
Parenting books are piled up around their homes.
They bought a special care chair and, despite some setbacks, mom struggled to breastfeed.
She gets up at night to feed and hug her new skinon-skin. And —
As often happens in those tired early weeks --
She fell asleep in the nursing chair, holding the child in her arms.
When she woke up, her child was dead.
When the mother was sleeping, its position changed and its face pressed on her body or chair.
The baby is too small to turn his head into the air.
Det tells the tragic story. Sgt.
Hamilton police homicide investigator Peter Tom
He went to that phone because every time a child under the age of five died unexpectedly, the major criminal unit would do so.
\"I was almost immediately convinced that it was a terrible accident,\" he said . \".
\"But you only have one chance to protect a potential crime scene.
\"The agreement states that every death is first and foremost considered a possible killing.
The sad family had to be interviewed.
The police must move them out of the House and catch the scene when the forensic work is completed.
The baby needs an autopsy.
Tom recalled the baby gift that was not opened in the shower that welcomed the newborn home a few hours before death.
In the end, the cause of death was determined to be a sudden accidental death, and sleep together was a factor contributing to death.
What does this mean?
This means that the coroner is unable to determine the cause of the infant\'s death.
This is usually the case for children under one year old.
But the risk of infant death sleeping with other people or pets increases.
According to the chief coroner\'s office, bed sharing was a factor in the death of nine infants in Hamilton from 2010 to 2016.
In six years, there are nine healthyso far as post-

The baby dies while sleeping with someone.
There is an \"unsafe sleeping environment\" in every death \"--
It can include anything from pillows, blankets or soft mattresses to plush toys that are with them when they die.

During the year, five other Hamilton babies died in unsafe sleeping conditions, the only cause of death.
\"Bed sharing\" or \"Common
Usually, \"sleep\" or \"family bed\" occurs out of love \".
A doting, sleepy parent sits asleep on a sofa or chair holding the child.
Or they bring their precious newborn baby to bed to breastfeed.
They may consciously decide that a shared bed is the best way to raise a child.
Alternatively, they may intend to put the child back in the crib after feeding or comforting, but fall asleep before doing so.
\"We know they died in unsafe sleeping conditions.
We don\'t know they died from unsafe sleeping conditions . \"
Chief Coroner of Ontario, Dirk Huyer
Huyer says it is complex and often impossible to determine the cause of death in this case.
A baby may have died in SIDS-
Sudden infant death syndrome
Before parents accidentally roll over them.
\"Understanding all the details of each baby\'s death is a challenge,\" Huyer said . \".
Therefore, the best way is to determine which factors may lead to sudden death.
An editorial published in the journal Pediatrics of the American Medical Association in June said that in the United StatesS.
Parents from all ethnic and ethnic groups usually share beds. Thom and Det. Sgt.
Dave Oleniuk, also a homicide investigator for Hamilton Police, said that the cases they received included families from different backgrounds and all social backgroundsEconomic level.
\"We often hear parents follow the way their parents do,\" Oleniuk said . \".
\"Generations of their family have made connections in some way.
The glue is very good, but in some other areas, instead of solving the problem in a sleeping environment.
\"Bonding is great, but in some other areas, instead of solving the problem in a sleeping environment. ” Tweet this.
Thom is a member of the Ontario death Council under the age of five, which includes detectives, doctors, royal lawyers and product safety officers from Health Canada.
The group reviewed paper files of child deaths to identify causes and trends.
It is frustrating, he said, that there are still groups advocating that sharing a bed is the golden standard for connecting with children.
The investigation into the resulting deaths is \"the most terrible thing,\" he said \".
Bringing the baby into bed is a shared scene, but tired parents sleep on a sofa or chair while holding the baby, which increases the risk, according to US media reportsS.
Published in 2016 at the American Academy of Pediatrics.
\"AAP admits that parents often fall asleep while feeding their babies,\" the study said . \".
\"The evidence suggests that if the parents are asleep, sleeping in an adult bed with the baby is less dangerous than sleeping on a sofa or an armchair.
Huyer said: \"It is difficult for researchers to determine that each situation is a continuous dangerous behavior, although the best thing to do is to let a child of one year and under sleep in a crib, there is a sturdy mattress in the crib covered with a fitted sheet.
The crib should be compliant and should not contain anything else at all --
No blankets, plush toys, pillows or bumper pads.
The shared bed and unsafe sleeping environment put babies, especially those 7 months old or younger, at \"increased risk,\" Huyer said \".
Until that age, if the baby is ultimately in a position to hinder their breathing ability or become too hot, it is unlikely that they will have the ability or strength to move themselves out of danger.
In addition, the increased risk is that the baby shares a bed with someone who is harmed by drugs or alcohol and shares it on a soft surface such as a water bed, sofa or armchair.
In 2014, 16 infants under the age of 1 died in Ontario, half of which were deaths of children under the age of 1 examined by the death Committee under the age of 5.
In 2015, sleep accounted for 42 (25)
Of the 59 deaths in Ontario, the death patterns were classified as pending.
• Babies should sleep in approved cribs without damage or repair.
The crib should have a sturdy mattress with only one fitted sheet on it.
The crib should be completely tidy: no blankets, pillows, bumpers, toys.
There is no blind rope hanging near the crib.
Babies should be on their backs.
The baby should be in the same room as the caregiver, but not on the same sleeping surface.
